Crestor contains the active ingredient rosuvastatin calcium, which is a type of medicine called a statin.
It works by reducing the production of cholesterol by the liver.

myopathy; 20 mg once daily if low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is >190 mg/dL. Maintenance dose: 5 mg to 40 mg once daily.
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: Starting dose: 20 mg once daily. Maintenance dose: 20 mg to 40 mg once daily.
Patients taking cyclosporine: Starting and maintenance dose: 5 mg once daily.
Patients taking concomitant gemfibrozil: Maximum dose: 10 mg once daily.
Patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency: No dosage modification needed.
Patients with severe renal impairment not on hemodialysisc: Starting dose: 5 mg once daily.
Maintenance dose: 5 mg to 10 mg once daily.
